Wenzel You Buy a Sleeping Bag?

Hey, Everything Summer Camp Fans!

Today’s Blog post shines its spotlight on another brand whose excellent products we offer. A couple weeks ago, we took a good, close look at Troxel Performance Headgear for equestrian safety helmets. Today, I’m talking about sleeping bags—Wenzel sleeping bags to be specific. When it comes to Wenzel, there’s no better brand for your comfort on a night under the stars.Wenzel has been around for a while!

The very first summer campers as well as the early pioneers of ‘The New World’ knew Wenzel because Wenzel was around back then to supply all those brave explorers of the 19th century with the reliable gear they required for survival in the unforgiving wilderness. Wenzel has well withstood the test of time and remained a brand name synonymous with high-quality since their very beginnings in 1887.

In order to maintain their name for the past 130 years, Wenzel has had to go through incredible changes to keep up. The world was very different back in 1887. And Wenzel was different too. But with the advent of technological advances, household computers, and—now, the digital age—Wenzel has had to adapt to a society that runs on continual internet connectivity.

But while the company keeps their operation updated for efficiency by today’s standards, Wenzel is delighted to provide their customers with products that remind them about the world of yesterday. Everything Summer Camp knows just as well as Wenzel that being surrounded by the great outdoors is a healthy experience for our bodies and minds and helps develop creative thinking. A connection to Nature on some level is a basic human need.

Wenzel loves nourishing that need.

Escape, connect, and recharge with the help of Wenzel! Check out our selection from Wenzel by clicking right here and, as always, thanks for reading!

Seth Green is My Favorite Color

Hey, Summer Campers!

Former summer campers are so widespread across the country that it come as no surprise to find out how so many celebrities and other famous folks have a history of summer camp in their childhood. I’ve written about over one hundred celebrities who once attended summer camp and today I come with yet another—the one and only, Seth Green!Seth Green is my favorite color.

Growing up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Seth didn’t travel far at all to attend summer camp at the Union for Reform Judaism Camp Harlam, situated in the foothills of the great Pocono Mountains in rural Pennsylvania. Back then, Seth ran around like all the other kids, but his childhood would quickly become anything but conventional.

At the very young age of ten years old, Seth had already debuted in his first two movies, ‘Billions for Boris’, as well as ‘The Hotel New Hampshire’. Not very much later, he played the younger brother of the lead role in ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’.

He continued making appearances in films regularly throughout his childhood and adolescence and before long, he’d made a name for himself which led to bigger roles such as Duane Cody in the family comedy ‘Rat Race’ or Chris Griffin in Fox’s long-running animated series, ‘Family Guy’.

His growing popularity and lifelong experience in the business led to him creating his own stop-motion cartoon show on Adult Swim, ‘Robot Chicken’. Aspiring to reach his dreams since he was little, Seth Green kept an incredible momentum from his time at summer camp. What will you keep from your time at camp?

Whose Shoes?

Hey, Shoe-wearers!

You wouldn’t dream of doing hard labor in your bare feet! So why would we expect it from our horses? More than just a fun game of tossing metal shoes back and forth, the accessories of this leisure activity were originally footwear for horses. So how did the It doesn't look or sound very comfy, but horses do much better with them than without!horse shoe come to be anyway?

This was first discovered by our ancient ancestors who, as they grew more domesticated and domesticated animals, realized that working animals lived on terrains that often times led to excessive wear and tear on hooves or worse—broken limbs. Our ancestors saw that the walls and portion of the sole on the hooves of a domesticated horse needed additional protection on their feet.

Around the world, different attempts were made. An early method was to wrap the hooves in rawhide leather and other materials which was used for therapeutic purposes as well as protective. Another attempt from the Romans took a note from the common footwear of people at the time—the sandal and strapped this metal bottom around the feet of their horses.

The other methods eventually faded away as people discovered the horseshoe as the best and most efficient means of protection. After proper fitting and grooming, the horseshoe is nailed into the bottom of the hoof (don’t worry—horses of no sensation in their hooves; it’s the equivalent of snipping our fingernails).

These guys are pros, for sure! The popularization of metal horseshoes gave rise to a fun leisurely activity around the stables. Horseshoes has become an immensely widespread game—sort of a more rustic and rural version of bean bags, opposing players stand at opposite ends of the throwing area, marked by two poles sunk into the ground. The idea is to get the U-shaped shoe to wrap around and ‘ring’ a pole. Points are rewarded for touching the pole or being a shoe’s length away as well.

The game came along almost instantly after the shoe was first invented for the purpose of horse hoof protection a little more than 2000 years ago. Still a great means of entertainment today, check out or indoor version of Horseshoes by clicking here. Have a Freestyle Horseshoes makes this wild outdoor game okay for indoors as well.blast horsin’ around at camp and, as always, thanks for reading!

What Celeb Summer Camped in the San Juan Islands?

Hey there, Summer Campers!

We talk about so many celebrities who were once summer campers like yourselves here on the Everything Summer Camp Blog. Mark another celebrity for today—I’m talking about Mei Mei herself—Kate Hudson—who attended Four Winds * Westward Ho Boys and Girls Summer Camp when she was closer to your age.

Kate spent her summer days soaking in the sunny fun on Orcas Island in Washington State’s San Juan Islands. The island provides a hundred acres of shady woods, open fields, and gorgeous waterfront—lending the perfect environment for an awesome variety of activities and programs to develop skills and confidence in their Kate Hudson started her confident career in acting in 1996campers.

Born to the Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn and comedian/actor/musician Bill Hudson, Kate didn’t grow up with the easiest family life—her parents divorced when she was just one year old. She was raised chiefly by her mother in Los Angeles.

After completing her elementary and high school education, Kate started at Crossroads, a college preparatory school in Santa Monica. She graduated in 1997 and, though she was accepted into New York University, she opted to follow in her mother’s footsteps and pursue her career in acting instead of trying for her undergraduate degree.

She had already made a television appearance on the show ‘Party of Five’ and thought she had a chance to make it big. By the very next year she appeared in two films and by 2000, she starred as Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe’s coming-of-age motion picture ‘Almost Famous’.

Much more recently, Kate voiced the character Mei Mei in the 2016 Dreamworks feature Kung Fu Panda 3 as well as television appearances such as ‘Glee’ and ‘Saturday Night Live’.

Despite hardships she faced in her youth, Kate still rose to the heights of success with a great acting career. No matter what hardships you face in your life, you’re sure to have successes as well. Hey, Camp Fans!

We’ve got the itch, here at Everything Summer Camp, to spread the word about the awesome camps with whom we’ve formed tight bonds and relationships. It should come as no surprise to our readers of the camp community that we love these camps so much—we work with over 270 of them!
