Founder of Under Armour, Kevin Plank was a former special teams captain wUnder Armour is our latest addition to our awesome camping gear brands.hen he played for University of Maryland. He took an idea that he initially had on the football field one day and turned it into a revolutionary industry that would forever-change the clothing that athletes wore!

Back in his playing days, Plank hated having to change his sweat-soaked cotton T-shirts over and over again during two-a-days—that is, when a team or individual player trains twice at two different times throughout a single day. He wanted performance wear that would see him through his games, his practices, and his workouts.

Determined to find a solution, he eventually decided to set out to create his own. He embarked on massive research and discovered the athletic benefits of synthetic fabrics. And, from there, he designed a T-shirt that he engineered with moisture-wicking performance fibers. The shirt was made to keep athletes cool, dry, and light in the most brutally hot conditions.

It was the first HeatGear® Tee. By the time he turned 23, he had unofficially launched his new company which he appropriately named Under Armour. The business may have operated from out of his grandmother’s basement and he may have traveled the East Coast, selling his T-Shirts from the trunk of his car, but he knew he had started something big.

After his first year, Kevin generated $17,000 in sales! The next year, he went to work developing his next invention—ColdGear® fabric to keep athletes warm and dry and light. Soon after, he came out with his AllSeasonGear® clothing line. By the time he was 25, Kevin moved into new headquarters and warehouse (a step up from his grandmother’s basement).

Kevin Plank recognized a problem and when he couldn’t find a solution—he created one. Through hard work and a good amount of determination, Kevin took his desires and made a difference in the comfort that athletes can dress in during their performances. The fourth-bestselling series for kids ever published, Choose Your Own Adventure books give kids interactivity with choices that lead to different outcomes. But how did this great concept for books come to be? The Choose Your Own Adventure Brand puts out amazing books and adventures!Well, it all started at summer camp!

Ray Montgomery worked with his wife, Shannon Gilligan. Knowing the importance of experiential learning, they introduced their boys, Anson and Ramsey, to the world of summer camp on Lake Champlain! Though Ray never did attend summer camp as a camper, he became a camp counselor at the famous summer camp of Pine Island in Maine.  Behold!--Adventure #1 in the CYOA series!

It was there that Ray first realized that interaction in education was essential to helping kids learn and read. After his days as a counselor, he established his own summer school to introduce kids to similar activities that he imparted at Pine Island.

Devoting a great deal of time and effort to studying the benefits of experiential learning and game theory, Ray eventually came across the idea for books that, in his words, put kids “in the driver’s seat.” Choose Your Own Adventure Books are the only books where the plotline depends on choices that the reader makes. You’ve Got a Friend..

Hey, Camp Fans!

The world is certainly camp crazy. From singer/songwriters to famous athletes and big-name Hollywood stars, it seems EVERYONE goes to camp! Writers—such as myself—are no exception. I, however, am not famous. Marta Kauffman, on the other hand, is a name that lots of people know. Co-creator of the hit sitcom ‘Friends’, Marta Kauffman is responsible for a cultural craze that became popular the world over.

Check out where this Friend of everyone's went to summer camp.Long before Marta joined forces with David Crane—her co-creator of ‘Friends’—she attended summer camp at Camp Ramah in the Poconos. This camp has sat on 90 acres of northeastern Pennsylvania for nearly 70 years as it saw its beginning as a camp site in the year 1950. This mountainous and woodsy setting provided Marta with a space where she work on personal growth by means of fun activities and adventures, as well as friends to share the experiences.

She went to school at Marple Newtown High School near Philadelphia and became incredibly interested in acting—so much so that in her senior year, she directed her school’s production of ‘Our Town’, a play from 1938 by Thornton Wilder. She enjoyed her own independent studies when it came to the works of playwrights and had a great appreciation for the talent for acting.

After high school, she attended Brandeis University where she continued her dedicated study to the Theater. And after four years of hard work and relentless studying, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and went on to pursue a writing career in the world of television.

Starting with a single episode of ‘Everything’s Relative’ in 1987, Marta continued to work on quick single-episode jobs as well as co-creating a few different series. It took her seven years in TV until she and David Crane launched their breakthrough series, ‘Friends’. Their show reached enormous popularity and ran for an entire decade before hitting their widely-celebrated finale.

Marta kept up her writing career after ‘Friends’ and has remained busy to the present day with her current TV show ‘Grace and Frankie’. Camp Ramah put Marta on an awesome and determined path that stuck with her all throughout her life. Perhaps Camp Ramah sounds like a good match for your soon-to-be-camper. Check them out on their website right here and, as always, thanks for reading.

Smart Art

Hey, Everything Summer Camp Fans!

It’s a little tricky, hanging a name on Art’s position at Everything Summer Camp. I guess you could say he’s our Handyman/Maintenance guy but he does much more than that. For the last five years, he’s been doing everything from fixing the flash dryer in our screen printing shop to mowing the grass on the company’s property.
Art is our handy maintenance guy at Everything Summer Camp.
Ask Art to build you something—anything—and he’ll come back with a piece of equipment that drops your jaw. He’s fixed my riding lawn mower for me as well as my two push mowers lickety-split!

Not too far from Everything Summer Camp, Art lives in Stanley, Wisconsin but he was born all the way on the other side of the country in Fresno, California. So how did he come to settle down in Stanley? Well, to answer that question, allow me to simply delve into some facts about the guy.

I’m not trying to say that Art’s old, but he definitely has more history under his belt that anyone else at Everything Summer Camp.

Just as he’s had every conceivable job under the sun, he’s been to every single one of the 48, contiguous United States. When choosing an area in which to settle, he didn’t look around the neighborhood, he looked at the U.S. map.

He chose northwestern Wisconsin because it was a place that suited him and his wife, Pat. Art met his wife in the military, as Art served as a Marine in the Viet Nam war. Together they raised three boys—Art II, Jeremy, and Sean. With their boys all grown up, Art and Pat share a simple life together with the house all to themselves—no kids or even animals. “Wife, kids, grandchildren—no pets,” he says.

Aside from a Marine, he’s also been a police officer, a meteorologist (in Viet Nam), a tool and die maker, and (an avid skier), he’s also worked Ski Patrol which entails skiing out to treat injured skiers on the scene. Remember when I said he’s done a lot of different jobs? I wasn’t makin’ it up. When going down the list, a line from one of Sinatra’s songs comes to mind:

I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn, and a king. That’s all for today, Camp Fans. Thanks for reading.

Hey, Camp Fans!

I was just looking into a wonderful camp on the eastern coast. I’m swinging our summer camp spotlight here at Everything Summer Camp to the banks of Lake Champlain—just eight miles north of Burlington, Vermont. I’m talking about a girls camp called Brown Ledge. Here's the camp logo for Brown Ledge Camp for Girls.-

Brown Ledge certainly lends a remote feeling, but really, the campsite is just a 15 minute drive to civilization: Vermont’s largest city, Burlington. Brown Ledge gives girls a clearer image of themselves—one that’s untouched by their established reputation of who they are from back home. Play Some Games Freestyle

Hey, Campers!

As we inch our way toward warmer weather here in the northwestern area of Wisconsin—the place where Everything Summer Camp is based—we get more and more excited about all of our outdoor items. While we sell a few toys, games, or activity books that make for entertaining indoor use, most of what we sell has to deal with camping gear in the great outdoors.

This time of year, the weather tends to be a little shaky—60° one week and snow in the next. Well, you can take the fun outside or keep it in with the Freestyle Bocce and Freestyle Horseshoe Set.

Freestyle BocceIndoor Bocce is a blast! Play it outside too!
This game set includes six, nylon throwing balls and one target ball filled with pellets. There’s also a cinch-shut mesh nylon pouch. The Target Ball is randomly thrown and players then take turns to toss their Throwing Balls and aiming as close to the Target Ball as they can get. The scoring system is simple: one point for each bocce ball that’s closer to the Target Ball than your opponent’s closest ball. If you’re talented enough to toss a Throwing Ball with enough accuracy that it creeps up and rolls to a stop and touches the Target Ball, that counts for two points.

Freestyle HorseshoePlay it inside, play it outside---it's all good.
A longstanding classic, this set of Freestyle Horseshoes includes four full-size rubber horseshoes, two rubber mats, two indoor stakes, two outdoor stakes, and a carrying bag with instructions. Game play is simple: players take turns tossing their horseshoes, trying to ring one around a stake. If a horseshoe lands within six inches of a stake, it counts as one point, if both of your horseshoes are closer than your opponents’ you get two points, and if you ring a stake with your horseshoe, it counts as three points.

Get your games for affordable prices right here at Everything Summer Camp to get some fun whether your stuck indoors or the sun is shining! They’re easy-to-use, easy-to-pack, and fun for all! Bring the games with you when you head off to summer camp where the fun never stops and, as always, thanks for reading!

How Well Can You See in the Dark?

Hey, Camp Fans!

We strive to carry the best brands of the best products for all the camping gear we carry here at Everything Summer Camp. That’s why we’re sharp on scouting for the newest trending brand names. We look for brand names that stand out like the innovative brand called Nite Ize. These leaders in the lighting industry question what a flashlight really needs to be.
Check out the story of this great Nite Ize product.Endowed with resourceful and creative minds, this company introduces new ideas to practical products for people who lead active lifestyles—perfect for the routines that keep kids on their feet at summer camp.

The idea first hit the founder of Nite Ize, Rick Case, when he was hiking a mountain with a friend and their poor quality headlights from the 80’s started to fail them in the darkness of the wee hours of the morning. Luckily, Rick remembered a small flashlight he had in his pocket. He took it out and held up to the side of his head.

These flashsticks are great for summer camp convenience! That’s when he had the thought, “Why not just turn this into a headlamp?”

When Rick first launched Nite Ize, it certainly saw humble beginnings. It was 1989 when the company first started their operation, working from a small cabin—only 500 square feet somewhere off away in the mountains of Boulder, Colorado.

But this company grew itself quickly and has made a name for themselves in the less-than-30 years that they’ve been around. They proudly developed their business, making an addition to their initial facility. They now have another building in Boulder—their 90,000 square foot Global Distribution Center.Nite Ize Flashlights are crazy powerful!

Creating quality products with a healthy glow—Nite Ize can brighten the darkness at summer camp! And we’re happy to supply our customers with the 3 in 1 LED FlashStick as well as the 3 in 1 LED Flashlight from this excellent brand name. Check out this flashlight and glowstick and, as always, thanks for reading!
