Have your tea and drink it too!

Hey, Tea Drinkers!

Of course, there’s nothing like a hot cup of tea on a rainy day or the dead of a chilling winter, but what do you do for all those summer scorchers? You might want to try a cooler beverage. Chill your hot drink and throw some ice in there to keep your drink refreshingly COLD! If it’s a hot day in your neighborhood, then today’s perfect to celebrate Iced Tea Day.get your fill of nice, cold tea today!

One amazing wonder about tea is that it’s such a versatile drink. You can prepare it so many different ways. Hot or cold—the temperature of this beverage is just the tip of the versatiliTEA iceberg. In honor of Iced Tea Day today, I’ll just talk about all the different ways to make ICED Tea.

Served with or without ice, there are many different styles to iced tea:

1.) Some iced tea is sweetened. Lipton offers their iced tea powder—just add water and stir; and you can find Iced Tea in a can from brands like Peace Tea. These popular, packaged cold drinks are typically sweetened with syrup flavors like raspberry, lemon, strawberry, etc., and are usually available in unsweetened versions as well.

2.) Some tea is made infused with loose tea leaves while most chilled, herbal tea makes for good iced tea. This type of iced tea is made by steeping your tea in boiling water for somewhere around five minutes (depending on the type of tea you’re using and how hot your water is) and then chilling it.

3.) Another way to prepare iced tea is called ‘Sun Tea’. While the result is essentially the same as #2, it prolongs the steeping process as water at a cooler temperature shows some resistance to infusion of tea leaves or bags. Leaving a pitcher out for an hour in the sun gives the tea enough time to permeate the pitcher. Fill a glass full of ice and pour the contents of your pitcher for yourself. This takes the longest, but it’s pretty simple. It’s my preferred method.

Always a great way to cool off on a hot day, enjoy Iced Tea Day and, as always, thanks for reading.

Ben Feldman—summer camp ‘mad man’!

Hey, Camp Fans!

With over 11 million people going to summer camp every year, it’s certainly no surprise to discover the loads upon loads of famous folks who were once summer campers just like you. Among many other musicians, athletes, and actors, actor Ben Feldman joins the crowd of famous folks mentioned on this Blog for their attendance of summer camp when they were little.Ben Feldman stuck to it and now plays a great role on 'Mad Men'

That’s right. Long before he ever did anything on Broadway or appeared as Michael Ginsberg on AMC’s ‘Mad Men’, he was a summer camper at Camp Manitou for Boys, located among the quiet area of Maine that around the beautiful Belgrade Lakes.

With a very standard upbringing, Ben and all you campers probably have more in common than you might imagine. He was born in Washington, D.C.  where he got involved in the summer camp life as well as the theater program at school since the very young age of just six years old! Ben loved his summer camp experiences at Camp Manitou so much, that he just kept going back!

Even in his high school years at Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Maryland, he worked the summers as a camp counselor. He also taught a videography class for a few summers in Bethesda, Maryland which teaches some of the basics in the art of filmmaking.

After receiving a bachelor of fine arts for acting, he went straight to work with fire in his belly. He moved to New York City and ended up performing on Broadway as an understudy for Jason Biggs. Eventually, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film and television.

For a long time, he took bit parts and remained the nameless character in lots of TV shows, but now he’s finally hit it big in his role as Michael Ginsberg on the hit show ‘Mad Men’ on AMC. See what a mixture of summer camp fun, passion, and determination did for Ben? Make the same happen for yourself! And, as always, thanks for reading!

How do they DO that?

Hey, Camp Fans!

If you’ve taken a look around on our website, then you already know, we don’t call ourselves Everything Summer Camp for nothing. We literally sell EVERYTHING you could want for your summer camp stay to help you get the most out of this incredible experience! There’s a lot you’ll need and want at camp, but it all starts with your camp trunk.

And that’s where we started too. Before Everything Summer Camp sold a vast supply of gear and other camping supplies, we were simply trunk manufacturers. And since we’ve been at it for 28 years, we’ve kinda got it down.

Our trunks are the best the world over. Let me tell you how we work our magic:

  • Our footlocker trunks for summer camp are the best---hands down!First, we start with solid materials. We get 3/8” thick, solid aspen plywood from Bessemer, Michigan and steel that comes from Pennsylvania and gets coated in Ohio with a lead-free, textured, baked-on, scratch-resistant enamel. Once we have our materials in house, we put the wood on a lining press and apply a water, odor, and tear-resistant DuraWrap Liner to it.
  • The next step is in our saw room where the different-sized pieces of the wood are cut to precision on a beam saw, guided by computer software. At our Assembly Station, the pieces are built into the frame of a trunk and the steel is formed and hung. Once the steel is on, it goes to the Marking Station where specific spots are marked to ensure accurate and consistent hardware attachment.
  • The hardware goes on next to provide our trunks with protection and functionality—not to mention a classic, attractive look. It takes over 100 screws to attach more than 50 pieces like hasps, handles, corner protectors, and more.
  • Lastly, The lid and the trunk are aligned, hinged together, and given a lid stay to keep a propped-open lid stay propped open and not coming down and smashing unexpectant, little fingers. After this step, we have ourselves a fully functional camp trunk!
  • We know people want their trunks FAST so we tend to keep somewhere around 3500 of them in stock heading into the camp season; that’s how we can ship so fast! In just a single year, we ship enough camp trunks that, if stacked on end, our tower of camp trunks would be taller than Mt. Everest! That’s a lot of trunks!

Take a closer look and get more details with this slide we put together. Just click the ‘See How Our Trunks Are Made’ Button that looks like this:Get the skivvy on how our trunks are built solid You can find it on our Main Site’s trunk pages. And, as always, thanks for reading!

Meet Mother Nature at her best!

Hey, Camp Fans!

Tuesdays throughout the month of May were made Tips and Advice posts about the Five Goals of Summer Camp. Of course, we only covered the first four in May—Goal #1: Have Fun. The second week talked about Goal #2: Improve athleticism, intellectualism, and artistry. Last week covered Goal #3: which is to Gain Independence. Last week Go Fish! With the beauty of mother nature all around, every activity is fun and enriching at camp!covered Goal #4: Make Friends and Develop Social Skills.

Today, we’re extending this series into June to reveal the fifth goal:

Goal #5: Experience a New, Natural Environment

Summer camping has changed a lot in the last century or so, but one thing that hasn’t changed in all those years, is the focus on the natural environment. It IS, after all, the natural environment that draws such popularity to summer camps.

It’s not unordinary for parents who live in the city to want their children to experience the wholesomeness of life in a rural area. While our society’s advancements in technology certainly benefit our daily lives greatly, it seems to reduce kids’ contact with the natural world. Camp aims to fix that.

Most camps are located on beautiful areas. As noted in Drs. Chris Thurber and Jon Malinowski’s ‘The Summer Camp Handbook,’ “At a good overnight camp, your child can gain respect for and curiosity about nature.” With a skilled cabin leader and a natural setting, campers build upon their personal growth in body, mind, and soul.

The great outdoors mean different things to everyone. For instance, some kids might enjoy the waterfront because that’s where they get to go swimming, whereas other kids might like sitting by the water because the sunsets are the prettiest there.

In either case, kids get a lot out of their environmental surroundings. Finding a camp that sits on a beautiful setting is where kids begin to achieve the Five Goals of Summer Camp. As always, thanks for reading.
